TEXALPA
The purposes of TEXALPA shall be to foster publications and advance the standards and practices of communications within The American Legion, Department of Texas in the Department, Divisions, Districts, and Posts, and in their Auxiliary, Sons of The American Legion, or affiliated organizations as may be represented by the membership.
This purpose shall be carried out through the specific objectives:
- To promote understanding, cooperation and an exchange of ideas among members.
- To promote the development and application of improved methods and programs of communications.
- To demonstrate the practical value of effective communication and public relations, both internal and external.
- To promote the training and development of individual members through the collection and dissemination of information of value and interest to the members.
- To encourage the professional development of members.
- To assist in promoting the purposes and programs of The American Legion.
- To act as the voice of TEXALPA membership before The Department of Texas, The American Legion.
- To strive for the highest ethical standards in carrying out these objectives and the National American Legion Press Association; and to consider legislative proposals affecting publications or mailing of the publications.

The Constitution and By-Laws Committee meets each year at the Department Convention to consider proposed changes, additions or deletions to the organizations' Constitution and By-Laws. The duties of the committee are those normally appertaining thereto and as may be assigned by the organizations' executive committee.
Membership in TEXALPA shall be open to Public Relations Officers, Publicity Committee Chairpersons, and staff members of publications of American Legion organizations at all levels, their Auxiliary, and the Sons of The American Legion organizations, and to other persons closely allied with public relations, publications, and news services of The American Legion, provided no person shall be eligible for TEXALPA membership unless he/she is a member in good standing in The American Legion, Auxiliary, the Sons of The American Legion, or affiliated organizations.

1. District or Division: James Landers Plaque
For District or Division American Legion Family Publications.
2. Larger Post Publications: Patsy Palmquist Plaque
For Posts with 750 or more American Legion Family Members.
3. Medium Post Publications: Leonard Mills Plaque
For Post with 250-749 American Legion Family Members.
4. Smaller Post Publications: Chuck Donaldson Plaque
For Posts with up to249 American Legion Family Members.
5. Websites:Dan Fallon Plaque
For all websites created to support The American Legion Family

Competition Year
Papers submitted must have been issued/published between May 1, 2009 and April, 30 2010.
Basis of Judging
Papers will be judged on: Content (Legion, Auxiliary, S.A.L, local, county, division and district news, as appropriate); clear, concise and balanced writing; make-up; design and appearance; use of photos and illustrations.
Entry Instructions
Must be current member of the Texas American Legion Press Association.
For category 1, District, Division or State Newsletter or On Line publication submit three (3) papers or (3) online Publications one each of three separate issues.
For category 2, publication from Post, Unit or Squadron with Post membership above 750 submit three (3) papers or (3) online publications one each of three separate issues.
For category 3, publication from Post, Unit or Squadron with Post membership of 250- 749 submit three (3) papers or (3) online publications one each of three separate issues.
For category 4, publication from Post, Unit or Squadron with Post membership up to 249 submit three (3) papers or (3) online publications one each of three separate issues.
For category 5, submit the electronic address for your website.
For all entries with an identifying cover sheet must be submitted, to include the following information, typed or printed neatly:
• Name and Number of Post, District, Division, Unit, or Squadron, etc.
• Full address of Post, Unit, Squadron, etc.
• Name of Publication.
• Frequency of Publication.
• Average circulation number.
• Name, mailing address, phone number of Editor.
• Name, mailing address, and phone number of entrant, if other than the editor.
Entry Fee
An entry fee of $5 for each entry must accompany the submission. Entry fee can be paid by check payable to TEXALPA.

Entries must postmarked no later than May 21, 2010, and mailed to:
